The WGSD expectation is that students will read 75 minutes per week at home. That equates to roughly 15 minutes, 5 times a week. How do we measure that? Each month, your student will bring home a calendar to record his/her minutes each day. At the end of the month, send it back with them and they will get the next month's calendar to start again. If your student has lost his or her calendar, you can print a new one by clicking on the link below.
My goal this year is to foster a love of reading. I want my students to experience many genres and topics. When they are at home and reading, they can read books, magazines, online articles, recipes, comic books, newspapers...does anyone get those anymore ;) etc. They should be reading at a comfortable level, easily decoding words. Ask them about what they read. They should be able to tell you about the characters, setting, what problem(s) the character(s) experience and how the problem was solved.
